Zohra Opoku
Zohra Opoku (née en 1976, d'origine allemande et ghanéenne ; vit et travaille à Accra,Ghana) examine la politique de la formation de l'identité personnelle à travers des influences historiques, culturelles et socio-économiques, en particulier dans le contexte du Ghana contemporain.
Les explorations d'Opoku se font principalement à travers l'objectif de son appareil photo ; sa photographie s'exprime par la sérigraphie et des traitements photo alternatifs sur divers tissus naturels. Bien que son travail transmette un commentaire social et des thèmes largement pertinents autour de l'expérience humaine, chacune des explorations de Zohra est intimement ancrée dans les politiques d'identité personnelle. Elle intègre de manière récurrente des objets de famille et son propre image dans ses observations visuelles de la mémoire culturelle du Ghana.
En 2023, elle fait partie des artistes exposés lors de la 15e édition de la Biennale de Sharjah « Thinking Historically in the Present » (Émirats arabes unis). Elle a exposé internationalement au Museum for Photography (Chicago), au Cleveland Museum of Art (Ohio), au Centre for Contemporary Art (Lagos), au Kunsthaus Hamburg (Allemagne), au Musée de l’Ethnographie (Bordeaux), au Guggenheim Museum (Bilbao), au Kunsthal (Rotterdam), au Musée archéologique de Mykonos (Grèce), au Southbank Centre / Hayward Gallery (Londres), à SAVVY Contemporary Berlin (Allemagne), au Kunstmuseum Wolfsburg (Allemagne) et à la Tate Modern (Royaume-Uni).
Son travail est collectionné par des institutions renommées telles que la Cleveland Clinic Collection, la Faurschou Foundation, le Musée royal de l'Ontario, le Samuel P. Harn Museum of Art, le CCS Bard College Hessel Museum of Art, le Los Angeles County Museum of Art, la Tate Modern et, plus récemment, le Centre Pompidou.
