Zohra Opoku, explorer of memory and identity

In this solo show entitled "I Have Arisen... Part 2", Zohra Opoku presents a series of works inspired by the ancient Egyptian "Book of the Dead", the first set of which was shown in Chicago last year.

Through this series, Zohra Opoku engaged in an artistic practice that sought to be both healing and transformative. On the linen canvas, often dyed indigo, the artist incorporates her own archive of before and after images of her body as it was subjected to radiation. She also drew inspiration from countless photographs of trees taken in a Berlin park in winter, focusing on the idea of springtime renewal, of dormant life. The trees appear silk-screened as a background in some works or in sculptural form in others. Each of his works is accompanied by a long title, a passage from the "Book of the Dead".

Mariane Ibrahim Gallery, Zohra Opoku exhibition in Paris, until June 3, 18, avenue Matignon, Paris 8e.
