Clotilde Jiménez: Éramos silencios

Septembre 15 - Octobre 31, 2026 Chicago

Mariane Ibrahim is pleased to announce Éramos silencios, a solo exhibition by Clotilde Jiménez, on view in Chicago from September 15 to October 31, 2026.

The exploration of the self has long been central to Clotilde Jiménez’s practice. Across his exhibitions with Mariane Ibrahim, the artist’s personal and artistic journeys have unfolded in parallel. Now, in his fifth presentation with the gallery and his second solo exhibition in Chicago, Jiménez turns to a personal narrative rooted in Puerto Rico, tracing the histories, memories, and inherited silences that have shaped his understanding of family and identity.

Through painting, collage, drawing, and sculpture, the orange emerges as a recurring motif and metaphor. It evokes the sweetness and abundance of family histories, but also the omissions, secrets, and unresolved tensions that pass from one generation to the next. Like the fruit itself, lineage carries both nourishment and decay. Beneath its vibrant skin lies stories that shape a family's character and flavor, revealing how memory—and the spaces where memories falter—becomes embedded within the narratives we inherit.
