Phillips is pleased to present AMERICAN AFRICAN AMERICAN, a selling exhibition curated by Phillips' Senior Advisor and Director Emeritus of the Brooklyn Museum, Arnold Lehman. The show offers an inclusive and dynamic reshuffling of the American art world from the 1950s to the present. Bringing together more than sixty works, the exhibition looks towards the increasingly powerful cadre of American artists who happen to be black, as well as those who have looked deeply into their blackness as a source of inspiration.
Long-established and emerging artists — from Basquiat and Wiley to Pendleton and Erizku — act as critical markers on an artistic trail that leads us to today.
