Black mundanity, simply meaning a distinct perspective of existence, revolving around themes of quiet, silence and space has been what my practice has been centering on, drawing inspiration from references that have placements of Black women within popular culture synonymous with a sort of peace or quiet that translates into silent activism, existence. This culminated within looking at references I enjoyed growing up such as early 2000s and 90s hip hop and RnB album covers (‘Lili Kim’), and more recent references such as Solange’s video album (‘Call me when you get Home,’). The idea is to create existing space of our is recognisable to one intended audience, but still exist in space not reachable for all audience members.
