Amoako Boafo: The Home I Have Never Had

October 19 - December 19, 2026 Paris

Mariane Ibrahim is pleased to announce a major solo exhibition by Amoako Boafo (b. 1984, Accra) in Paris, opening on October 19 and on view through December 19, 2026.

Boafo’s practice is rooted in proximity: he paints those within his own circle, including friends, family, and fellow artists, applying oil paint directly with his fingertips to build up skin, posture, and gesture, a technique he developed during his studies in Vienna. This approach gives his surfaces a tactile, almost sculptural quality, setting his figures apart from the flat, pattern-rich backgrounds against which they are placed.

For this occasion, Boafo transforms the gallery into an immersive environment, bringing the idea of home to the forefront of his practice for the first time. Paintings and atmosphere converge into a single space that reflects on belonging, hospitality, and the ways spaces shape those who inhabit them. In doing so, the artist blurs the line between exhibition-making and lived experience, offering the paintings not simply as works on view, but as fragments of a life shared, with the gallery serving as a passage into his most intimate world. Room by room, the space becomes occupied by the people who surround him, forming a private constellation rarely afforded a stage of its own.

The exhibition coincides with Art Basel Paris, as well as the annual MaSH inaugural evening on Monday, October 19, which brings together thirty-nine galleries from the Matignon–Saint-Honoré sector for a shared evening of special programming. The exhibition also marks the fifth anniversary of Mariane Ibrahim’s Paris gallery, making it both a significant presentation in Boafo’s career and a celebration of a relationship that has evolved alongside the gallery’s presence in the city.
