"Using numerous mediums such as photography, video, installation, and performance, she explores the history, culture, and politics of societal identity, primarily spotlighting the contemporary landscape of Ghana. Opoku uses her camera to weave various narratives in Self Portraits (2016), Unravelled Threads (2017) and Harmattan Tales (2018). These projects evolve through photo processing techniques such as screen printing on natural fabrics. She has exhibited internationally at the Tate, the 15th edition of the Sharjah Biennial, Hayward Gallery, Guggenheim Museum, Bilbao, Museum of Contemporary Photography, Chicago, Centre for Contemporary Art, Lagos, and the Kunsthaus Hamburg, amongst many others. She was also an artist in residence at Kehinde Wiley’s Black Rock Senegal in 2020. Here, we discuss her family background, her transition from fashion into art, and her various projects over the years."
