Interview with Mariane Ibrahim, gallery owner and ally of Afro-descendant artists

From Paris to Chicago, art dealer and gallerist Mariane Ibrahim exhibits Afro-descendant artists and tells her story in the documentary Yes we can: l'art noir contemporain, available on Arte. She presents the artists she admires in this documentary directed by Marion Schmidt: Shannon T. Lewis and Peter Uka among her artists represented.

Harper's Bazaar went to meet the gallerist who puts the spotlight on artists who have been forgotten for too long. "There has always been a crucial lack of representations of Black people in works exhibited in museums. As a teenager, I loved attending exhibitions, but I almost never found paintings of people who looked like me". Mariane Ibrahim then opened galleries that she sees as platforms for education and accessibility to international art.
