The Art of Elizabeth Catlett: From the Collection of Samella Lewis presents 30 works by Elizabeth Catlett, including prints and sculptures, drawn from the personal collection of artist, educator, and art historian Dr. Samella Lewis, who was Catlett’s student, mentee, and lifelong friend. The exhibition celebrates Catlett’s seven-decade career and her engagement with themes including Black identity, motherhood, civil rights, labor, feminism, and economic inequality. It also includes works by Lewis and Catlett’s husband, Mexican artist Francisco Mora.
The exhibition is part of a traveling presentation organized by Landau Traveling Exhibitions that has previously been shown at the Columbia Museum of Art, Gadsden Arts Center & Museum, David Owsley Museum of Art at Ball State University, Mattatuck Museum, and The Westmoreland Museum of American Art.
