For One Solid Time, Wet: La piscine dans l’imaginaire explores the swimming pool as a recurring motif in contemporary art, transforming it from a site of leisure into a space charged with ideas of desire, control, modernity, solitude, and environmental anxiety. The exhibition brings together international artists who use the pool to reflect on the ways societies regulate bodies, resources, and shared spaces.
Among the participating artists is Ian Mwesiga, alongside David Hockney, Bill Viola, Pipilotti Rist, Larry Sultan, Rossella Biscotti, Caroline Walker, and Anastasia Samoylova, among others. Their works approach the pool from different perspectives, from intimacy and memory to architecture, climate, and the politics of water.
Curated by Federica Chiocchetti and Lou Stoppard, the exhibition will be on view at the MBAL from October 3, 2026, to February 21, 2027.
