The Harvest Season

In fall 2026, the Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain presents The Harvest Season, a major exhibition by Ghanaian artist Ibrahim Mahama in collaboration with nine associate artists and collectives. Conceived as a living entity inspired by the art centers Mahama has established in Tamale, northern Ghana, the exhibition transforms the Fondation Cartier’s new building through site-specific commissions and immersive installations. Together, the participating artists explore themes of memory, identity, labor, ecology, and the transmission of collective knowledge.

Among the featured presentations is a selection of works by German-Ghanaian artist Zohra Opoku (b. 1976). Since relocating to Accra in 2011, Opoku has developed a textile-based practice that combines screen printing, embroidery, and personal photography to examine how political, historical, and cultural contexts shape identity. Her presentation includes earlier and recent works, alongside new pieces created specifically for The Harvest Season, an exhibition that reflects on creation as a cyclical process in which history informs collective futures.
