At the Edge

Lorraine O'Grady I Borough of Manhattan Community College (SFAC)
At the Edge, a group exhibition presented at The Shirley Fiterman Art Center, brings together eleven artists and one collective whose practices span more than five decades. Working across performance, video, installation, and mixed media, the exhibition explores how artists have responded to the political, social, and cultural urgencies of their time through experimental and nonconforming approaches. Among the participating artists is Lorraine O'Grady, alongside a multigenerational group of practitioners challenging conventional ideas of art, identity, and power.

Beginning with works from the 1970s by women artists who questioned established artistic conventions, At the Edge traces a lineage of practices rooted in performativity, fragmentation, and experimentation. Embracing ephemerality and unresolved questions, the exhibition invites viewers to reconsider the structures that shape lived experience and imagine alternative possibilities.
