May Your Road Be Light and Fun

ruby onyinyechi amanze I Permanent Installation I MTA Arts & Design

MTA Arts & Design has unveiled May Your Road Be Light and Fun, a new permanent mosaic installation by ruby onyinyechi amanze at the Borough Hall Station in Brooklyn. Extending across the station’s passageway connecting the 2, 3, 4, and 5 subway lines, the work transforms the corridor into an immersive environment shaped by rhythm, imagination, and visual storytelling.

Drawing from amanze’s evolving visual language, the mosaic explores themes of embodiment, freedom, and spatial choreography through hybrid figures, architectural references, and dreamlike scenes that animate the walls with a sense of movement and play. Incorporating elements inspired by the station’s historic architecture, the installation creates a dialogue between the site’s past and the artist’s expansive fictional universe.

Fabricated by Miotto Mosaic Art Studios, the work translates amanze’s fluid line work and layered compositions into ceramic mosaic through mirrored, matte, glossy, and iridescent tiles. Monumental forms are balanced with quieter, intimate details that echo the delicacy and shifting scale of the artist’s works on paper, resulting in a vibrant public artwork that invites commuters into a world of poetic abstraction, movement, and possibility.
