Columbus Museum of Art presents “Accra! The Rise of a Global Art Community” opening October 6, 2023 and includes work by Amoako Boafo and Zohra Opoku.
Over the past five years the ‘Ghana School’ has emerged as an influential group of artists who have reshaped the contemporary art landscape. Showcasing the work of 18 artists who have deep connections to Accra, Ghana and their impact on global art discourse; the exhibition features 28 works by artists such as Amoako Boafo, Gideon Appah, Zohra Opoku, Otis Kwame Kye Quaicoe, Kenturah Davis, Lynette Yiadom-Boakye, El Anatsui, and Derek Fordjour.
Portraits, abstraction, textiles, works on papers and sculpture explore cultural identities, political histories, mythology, trauma and healing. The works challenge and redefine traditional art historical narratives, inviting viewers to engage with a new perspective.
