M. Florine Démosthène | Frist Art Museum

M. Florine Démosthène artwork is among 80 major collage works that reflect the breadth and complexity of Black identity, all brought together in a group exhibition, on view at Frist Art Museum from September 15 - December 31, 2023.

Featuring an intergenerational group of 52 renowned living artists, such as Kerry James Marshall, Mickalene Thomas, Lorna Simpson, Deborah Roberts, Wangechi Mutu, Derrick Adams, Andrea Chung, Kara Walker, Njideka Akunyili Crosby, the exhibition titled Multiplicity: Blackness in Contemporary American Collage, explores the varying ways collage is employed and how the technique suggests diverse conceptual concerns such as cultural hybridity, notions of beauty, gender fluidity, and historical memory. The artists created unified compositions that express the endless possibilities of Black-constructed narratives despite our fragmented society.
