Clotilde Jiménez

Éramos silencios

Join Clotilde Jiménez in his Mexico City studio as he guides us through the story that inspired his new exhibition “Éramos silencios”, opening tomorrow in Chicago. Rooted in his experiences in Mayagüez, Puerto Rico, the exhibition explores family lore, inherited silences, and the discovery that the man he knew as his uncle, Tío Juan, was in fact his biological grandfather. Through painting, collage, drawing, and sculpture, Jiménez revisits questions of family, identity, spirituality, and queer existence, transforming memories and family relationships into a personal mythology.

On view through October 31, 2026.
