A selection of Lorraine O’Grady’s works from her Miscegenated Family Album series is featured in Flying Colors: A Dialogue with the Collections of the Minneapolis Institute of Art, presented at the Musée d’art moderne et contemporain de Saint-Étienne Métropole (MAMC+) from June 27, 2026 to January 3, 2027.
Bringing together approximately 150 works by around forty American artists from the collections of the MAMC+ and the Minneapolis Institute of Art (Mia), the exhibition traces nearly 75 years of American art, from 1950 to the present. Organized chronologically, it highlights artists’ engagement with political and social issues and their defense of otherness.
Part of an exceptional American art season marking the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence of the United States, the exhibition is organized through the Franco-American FRAME (French American Museum Exchange) network. Curated by Aurélie Voltz, General Director of the MAMC+, it celebrates the transatlantic friendship between the two museums and their shared commitment to American art.
