Style is the Body Thinking

Amoako Boafo, Maimouna Guerresi, Ayana V. Jackson, and Lorraine O'Grady I SAIC Galleries

Style is the Body Thinking, curated by Michelle Grabner for SAIC Galleries, brings together more than 50 international artists to examine style, portraiture, and figuration from the 1960s to today. The exhibition considers how visual language can reflect and shape identity, power, labor, resistance, taste, technology, and the body.

The exhibition features Amoako Boafo, Maïmouna Guerresi, Ayana V. Jackson, and Lorraine O’Grady, whose works engage with questions of representation, identity, the body, and self-fashioning. Their practices are presented alongside a wide range of approaches to contemporary figuration, revealing how style can operate as both a personal and cultural form of expression.
