Raphaël Barontini at the Toronto Biennial of Art

Things Fall Apart by Allison Glenn
We are excited to share that Raphaël Barontini has been invited to participate in the fourth edition of the Toronto Biennial of Art at the Royal Ontario Museum, on view from September 26–December 20, 2026.

Titled Things Fall Apart, this edition is shaped by curator Allison Glenn’s research-driven and site-responsive approach. TBA 2026 centers on artists whose practices engage rupture as a generative force—reconsidering histories, geographies, and systems that shape contemporary life while proposing new ways of understanding the present.

This prestigious invitation celebrates Barontini’s practice, which challenges the historical canon surrounding cultures and territories shaped by slavery and colonization. Through paintings, flags, banners, tapestries, and ceremonial capes, he reimagines power, its rituals, and its representations, while opening space for plural narratives and new imaginaries grounded in diasporic histories and collective memory.
