Mariane Ibrahim is pleased to present Intervals, a new exhibition cycle that examines the gallery’s artists through thematic perspectives, presenting both new and historic works from the gallery’s program. This inaugural iteration focuses on Immigration, a conversation that is deeply resonant in Chicago--a city shaped by generations of migrants and their contributions to its evolving landscape.
Showcasing the works of seven artists, each shaped by distinct migratory histories, the exhibition offers perspectives on movement, identity, and belonging. While migration centers an act of motion, the recurrence of seated figures in these works suggests the quieter, introspective moments within that journey—pauses for reflection, waiting, and uncertainty. These figures embody the emotional weight of migration, from the anticipation of departure to the stillness of arrival, revealing both the agency and vulnerability inherent in the experience.
Through their practices, the artists explore the illusions, resilience, and impact of migration, reflecting on both the opportunities it presents and the challenges it entails. By centering stillness within narratives of movement, this exhibition offers an urgent reflection on contemporary realities. Intervals presents the multifaceted realities of migration, inviting a deeper understanding of its global occurrence and complexities.
