The 73 Things to Do, See, Eat, and Drink in Paris During Art Basel 2025
Heading for the Stars
Four artists, one exhibition, and a “constellation” of influences come together to tell the story of the African diaspora. At Mariane Ibrahim Gallery this month, visitors can admire an abstract sculpture by Nick Cave, created by juxtaposing “catastrophic weather phenomena and brain scans of young Black men suffering from post-traumatic stress caused by armed violence.” This powerful work sits alongside the multifaceted references of Michi Meko (including cartography, fishing, and street art to denounce the racism plaguing the United States), the reinterpretation of Egyptian mythology by Zohra Opoku, and the Afro-futurism of musician George Clinton, whose visual works are being shown in Europe for the first time. Captivating and necessary.
