Biography

Hilda Palafox(b. 1982 in Mexico, lives and works in Mexico City) is a visual artist whose work explores and interrogates the human figure, unfolding as an inquiry into subjectivity, the body, and women’s experience. She approaches identity through the tension between intimacy and monumentality: between the construction of an inner world that privileges sensitivity and human connection, and the public projection of formal and symbolic grandeur.

Her practice moves across drawing, painting, sculpture, and textile, in a material continuity that flows between supports, scales, and techniques. The curved line, planes of color, and the solidity of pictorial space extend from canvas to clay, and from clay to textile, preserving a consistent voice across materials.

In her work, the mystery of the feminine is held in balance with physical, emotional, and spiritual states. The figure operates as both axis and instrument of expression: from it emerge reflections on identity, the everyday, and the representation of the body—understood as matter capable of shaping itself and, in her most recent work, as a territory traversed by the memory of the earth. Her imagery oscillates between reality and fantasy, with nuances of spirituality, in gestures that become analogies of the human psyche, creating atmospheres that are at once familiar and enigmatic. Her work engages with the legacy of Mexican muralism, Latin American modernism, and contemporary feminist thought, shaping a distinctive iconographic repertoire in which the intimate, the symbolic, and the monumental coexist.

Hilda Palafox's work has been exhibited in Mexico, Japan, the United States, Spain, Italy, South Korea, and Australia, and her mural interventions extend across public spaces in Mexico, Brazil, the United States, Canada, Japan, Belgium, and Spain.
