The book dedicated to Amoako Boafo is published on behalf of his career to date, including recent works and his first solo exhibition (2020) in Chicago, entitled, I Stand By Me. With a forward written by gallery Founder Mariane Ibrahim, essays by Ekow Eshun and Shaquille Heath and Sir David Adjaye and Kim Jones OBE in conversation with Amoako Boafo, the book stands as Boafo’s first published compilation of works from 2018 to present.
Boafo’s work imposes his novelty and relevance as a figurative painter in the 21st century. The large paintings using photo transfer compositions marked a significant development in his technique. Concerned with a constant need to redefine new aesthetic and visual nomenclatures and to explore different ways of expressing themes; the artist emphasized atmospheric naturalism and the impressionist rendering of motion. Boafo uses painting as an instrument for navigating the complexities of human experiences and depicting a vivid sense of each subject's presence in the world.
