With light pollution, could Van Gogh paint “Starry Night” today?

Like Van Gogh, who discovered the power of the night sky in Provence and immortalized it in his famous work The Starry Night, Djabril Boukhenaïssi turns to the sky and asks us: “Would it still be possible to produce this painting today, from the same position?

While, until September 8th, the exhibition "Van Gogh et les étoiles" is being held in Arles at The Van Gogh Foundation, Boukhenaïssi expresses his concerns about the impact of the progressive disappearance of night on our collective imagination: "If this source of poetic inspiration dries up, it can only impact our relationship with the world. The night offers us the vertiginous feeling of infinity, a profound humility."
