Patrick Eugène - PERFUME OF HAITI
The title of Patrick Eugène's (b. 1984) solo show in Chicago, "50 lbs." refers to weight restriction airline companies enforce on travelers. The exhibition evokes the Haitian diaspora of the 1960s-1970s, which saw the artist's family emigrate to the United States. This space-time journey hosts the painter's first mixed-media installation: a pile of colorful suitcases and briefcases against the backdrop of a soundtrack imagined by the Chicago collective D-Composed.
