Le Nouveau Printemps

Raphaël Barontini I Toulouse, France
As part of this year's edition of Le Nouveau Printemps festival, Raphaël Barontini exhibits his work in three different events and venues.

  • "Faire Famille" group exhibition

Musée Saint-Raymond, musée d’Archéologie de Toulouse

       May 23 - June 22, 2025

Curated by Yandé Diouf, the Faire Famille exhibit is inspired by Kiddy Smile’s personal journey and the empowering spirit of ballroom culture, particularly its chosen families known as Houses—spaces of solidarity, expression, and resistance for the LGBTQIA+ community. Rather than recounting ballroom history, the exhibition channels its collective force to question traditional ideas of family and community, amplifying the often-silenced voices of marginalized individuals. Through the works of artists, the exhibit explores identity, heritage, and belonging, blending personal narratives with political expression to challenge dominant norms. Ultimately, Faire Famille becomes a symbolic House itself—a communal space for reimagining relationships, rewriting histories, and transforming marginalization into creative power.

  • "Le Conteur Créole" installation

       Bibliothèque d'Étude et du Patrimoine

       May 23 - September 21, 2025

Under the grand cupola of the Library, Raphaël Barontini unveils a monumental textile installation that honors the often-overlooked figure of the Creole storyteller—guardian of oral traditions and marginalized histories. Blending dyed fabrics, silkscreen panels, and digital prints, Barontini creates a vibrant collage that bridges time, geography, and imagination. His work evokes connections between the Creole storyteller and other oral figures like African griots and Occitan troubadours, embedding their legacy within the historic setting of the Library. Drawing inspiration from Patrick Chamoiseau, Barontini celebrates the full sensory and communal experience of storytelling, reaffirming his poetic and daring artistic vision while urging us to cherish and reimagine our collective memory.
