Marisol Rodríguez to Join Mariane Ibrahim as Curatorial Director

Gallery News
Mariane Ibrahim is pleased to announce Marisol Rodríguez as the Curatorial Director of the gallery’s three locations: Paris, Chicago, and Mexico City. Marisol Rodríguez will be based in Paris and will spearhead the gallery’s curatorial vision across the three spaces, and enhance the gallery’s relationships with museums and institutions, particularly in Europe, Africa, and the Americas.

Marisol Rodríguez shares, "Beginning this new role is a true honor. Anchored by the gallery’s three pillars in Mexico City and Paris—cities I call home—and Chicago, which is close to my heart, I am excited to cultivate new alliances with global institutions and foster opportunities for independent cultural workers who uphold the themes and stories our artists treasure."

Marisol Rodríguez was born in Ciudad de México and has lived in Paris for the past decade. Her background as an independent curator, writer, and editor, intersecting cultural history, popular culture, and contemporary art, will significantly enhance the gallery's mission and direction.

In 2016, she was a fellow at Independent Curators International's Curatorial Intensive in Raw Material Company in Dakar, after which she was invited by Simon Njami as guest curator of the 13th Dakar Biennial in 2018. More recently, she curated AMEXICA, an exhibition featuring works from the Servais Family Collection in Brussels (2020-2022), which later traveled to the Institut Culturel du Mexique in Paris (2023), as well as Chromosome Comic, at the acclaimed artist-run space Biquini Wax in Mexico City (2023).

She was a previous fellow at the Fundación Gabo in Colombia in 2015 and 2020 and has been a member of the AICA (Association International de Critiques d'Art) since 2011. She has previously been a Director at mor charpentier (2017-2019) and gb agency (2019-2023) in Paris. Rodríguez holds a Master’s in Culture, Criticism, and Curation from Central Saint Martins, where she attended with a Vice-Chancellor bursary.

“I am enthusiastic about Marisol’s expertise and her experimental methods of contextualizing our artists' program, which seamlessly align with our goal of presenting the next generation of artists in an innovative way,” emphasizes Mariane Ibrahim.
