In Mexico City with Carmen Neely as she guides us through a trace beyond the life of the body, her first solo presentation in Latin America and her third with the gallery, unfolding at a pivotal moment in Neely’s practice, as she now divides her time between Chicago and Mexico City.
The exhibition presents recent paintings and drawings that stem from an unanswerable question about how to uphold memory while also upholding truth. Through intuitive gestures, erasure, and the interplay between mark and negative space, Neely treats absence not as emptiness but as a visible trace of what is missing.
