Djabril Boukhenaïssi's pale nights at the Lee Ufan Foundation in Arles

"I am thirty years old; I belong to a generation that has lived its entire existence with the background noise of the word 'disappearance.' Even as a child, I was told about the disappearance of jobs, the disappearance of snow, the disappearance of species." These are the words of Djabril Boukhenaïssi, a young artist graduated from the Paris Fine Arts School. Selected by a jury of art world personalities chaired by Lee Ufan, he was chosen from 381 candidates. He is presenting at the MA space a series of paintings and prints imbued with a contemporary poetic vision of the night.

The works in his exhibition "À ténèbres" – an old expression meaning "at nightfall" – consisting of paintings, drawings, and prints – etchings and aquatints, highlighted with drypoint – all evoke the impact of the disappearance of night on the imagination.
