"Djabril Boukhenaïssi is a painter as well as an engraver, and this second practice, rather rare today, is just as important to him as the first. His painting and engraving can be described as "figurative," but only in a manner that is sometimes allusive, sometimes dreamlike, far from any realism or narrative. His passion for German Romantic poetry is profound and longstanding just as much as his interest in the exact sciences. As a teenager, he aspired to be both an artist and a biologist. "
