Patrick Eugène
Milk Decoration

Salomé Mathieu, Milk Decoration, Agosto 22, 2025
Patrick Eugène meets journalist Salomé Mathieu in his Atlanta studio to reflect on his journey as a painter. Known for his large, contemplative canvases that capture the daily lives of Black diasporas, Eugène retraces how his Haitian heritage and late entry into painting shaped his work.

After first turning to music as a creative outlet, Eugène began painting in his late twenties, describing it as an instinctive reconnection with himself. His practice, shaped by his mother’s collection of Haitian art and the influence of Black cultural history, foregrounds ordinary moments of Black life as acts of quiet poetry and political presence.

Drawing from both Haitian spirituality and American cultural experience, Eugène weaves memory, history, and rhythm into his figurative yet emotionally charged canvases. On the occasion of the 10th anniversary of Dior Lady Art, he is creating three limited-edition bags that translate his pictorial language into design, while also exploring ways to expand his practice beyond the canvas.
