5 must-see exhibitions in Paris this July

"If July means discovery for you, then you should head to Mariane Ibrahim's Parisian gallery, which is presenting an exhibition dedicated to young painter Ian Mwesiga until the end of the month. Entitled In the Service of Dreams and featuring new paintings, the show explores the porous boundary between reality and dream, through scenes of everyday life that flirt with surrealism.

Mwesiga’s canvases exude a rare calm, born from a consistently controlled perspective and soft blocks of color like light blue or sea green. His swimming pools recall David Hockney, and his expansive skies, René Magritte. But the Ugandan painter feels closer to artists like Peter Doig or Georg Baselitz, whose expressive use of color becomes a mirror for the emotions of the figures they depict."

Exhibition on view through July 26, 2025.
