In Each Remembered Thing, 2021 the imagery and composition both play with the idea of blurred boundaries, porous readings and shifting perspectives. The hands held in supplication hover over a pool of water whose reflection doesn’t depict its physical surroundings. Instead, full, dark curly afro hair envelop the horizon. The work alludes to collective world building, and a reconstruction through ritual where the sacred and the profane slide into each other. The weighted history of natural black hair gets reconditioned by wading in the waters of self care, knowledge and artistry.
